Now there’s a pleasant surprise, our clients enjoyed catching Dorado earlier this week.
One of the fastest game fish, the Dorado possibly the most colour game fish species with vibrant greens, yellows and blues and is also one of the most tastiest fish to eat.
It is believed that they can reach speeds up to 80.5 kph in short bursts. This fish species is also known as Mahi-Mahi or Dolphinfish,Β to distinguish it from the dolphin of the porpoise family, which is a mammal and in no way related. Large males have high, vertical foreheads, while the femaleβs forehead is more rounded. Dorado males grow larger than females and are referred to as bulls, females as cows.
The name Dorado derives from the Hawaiian language and means “very strong” In parts of the Pacific and along the English-speaking coast of South Africa, the mahi-mahi is commonly referred to by its name in Spanish, Dorado.
Dorado are extremely fast swimmers which feed extensively on flying fish, squid as well as on other small fish.Β When fishing for Dorados, one will typically find them in warmer waters, preying on schools of fish found beneathΒ floating debris like logs, seaweed, kelp, or even trash. Schools of small fish like to hang out under tangles of floating debris, and dorados eat small fish.
